General Description
The Colorado Plant Finder© is designed to be fast, easy to use and provide you with detailed product information that will assist you in making plant selections. 

Products can be selected using a wide variety of search options.  Detailed product information such as spread, height and drought tolerance is accessed on all of these products by clicking on the botanic name.  In most cases, a picture of the plant material is provided as well.  You can also print a copy of this information for future reference.

Only items that do well in Colorado are available using this search.  We want you to get the information that you need without having to sort through a bunch of items that are not suited to our climate.



How To Search
Searching is very simple, yet fast and flexible.  

The first portion of the search screen consists of self-explanatory plant characteristics.  Select the characteristics that you are looking for by entering this information in the appropriate fields.  There are four types of characteristic fields available.

The second portion of the screen determines how you want your search results sorted.  They will be sorted by type first and then you select whether to sort by Botanic or Common name.

The third portion of the screen allows you set the maximum number of results on any given search.  The range is 10 minimum and 50 maximum.  The fewer the results, the faster your searches.  The more the results, the longer it takes to search.

Tips
The less you enter, the more results you receive.  The more you enter, the fewer the results.  

The maximum number of items returned on any search is 50.  So, if your search information is too broad, you may not see all of the items.  If that's the case, narrow your search by adding more information.

Our botanic names have the following format:
Genus  Species  Cultivar   for example,   FRAXINUS AME 'AUTUMN PURPLE'CL

Our common names have the following format:
Cultivar  Species  Genus for example,   AUTUMN PURPLE ASH

Once you have entered your search information, you can either click on the Search button or press the <Enter> key to start the search.



Some examples will make this clear.  

#1 Find products with a botanic name of ACER FREEMANII 'AUTUMN BLAZE  or a common name of AUTUMN BLAZE MAPLE and that are PURPLE in the fall.

ANY of the following 10 searches will find these products.

Tip Only a part of the name is necessary in order to find what you are looking for and you can use UPPERCASE, lowercase or a ComBiNaTion.

#2 Find all Blue Mist Spirea that tolerate dry soil.

#3 Find all PERENNIALS that have BLUE flowers in JUNE

Flower Season is  Jun

#4 Find trees that have an approximate Height of 50 feet and are tolerant of Elevations up to 8500 feet.

#5 Find Deciduous Shrubs that are approximately 15 feet tall, 10 feet wide, have green foliage, white flowers are native to the region.

#6 Find all CERASTIUM (snow in summer)

Either of the following searches will find these products

How do you know that SNOW-IN-SUMMER has the '-' in it?  You don't !  This is an example of less is better.  You could use only the word SNOW.  This will give you a number of products that you aren't interested in like Mountain Snowberry, Snowball Bush, etc.  It will also give you the Snow-in-Summer.  Once you know how we have described it, you can enter it on the next search as follows:

By adding the '-' , you now get the results that you are looking for.
